WHAT TO DO WHEN THE DIAGNOSIS IS OVARIAN CANCER

If you’ve just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, you may be struggling with what to do first. Or if you’re experiencing a rising PSA following treatment or a cancer recurrence after hormone therapy or chemotherapy, you may be wondering what to do next. Learning about your disease and treatment options may help you feel more hopeful and more confident about your decisions. You are likely to feel more in control of the situation once you start treatment. Focus on getting the best treatment possible, from the beginning.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men in the U.S. after lung cancer. It can seem particularly complex to patients because of the range of treatment options, ranging from watchful waiting to surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy and chemotherapy.

While each patient is unique and treatment for prostate cancer can vary significantly among individual patients, Wayne’s experience will help illustrate one of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s approaches to treating—and beating—prostate cancer. Wayne, his surgeon, Dr. James Eastham, and his medical oncologist, Dr. Susan Slovin, together, will describe his experience, from initial diagnosis through all phases of treatment.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center has treatment facilities in Manhattan, Westchester, Long Island and New Jersey, providing conveniently located care for people throughout the metropolitan area.

For an individual diagnosed with prostate cancer, diagnosis and treatment begins with a patient evaluation designed to precisely identify the features of the prostate cancer and determine whether the cancer is localized to the prostate.
